Pushkar / Hotels / Tube / am

Padma Purana, Srstikhanda, Chapter 17:

Once Lord Brahma came to know that a demon, Vajranash, was killing people here so  Lord Brahma intoned a mantra on a lotus flower and killed the demon. During this process the parts of Lotus fell on three places are situated within a circuit of about six miles, and are called the

  1. Jyeshtha (elder) Pushkar,
  2. Madhya (central) Pushkar, and
  3. Kanishtha (younger) Pushkar
Later accompanied by brahmanas and other devas, or demigods, Lord Brahma went to Puskar to perform a sacrifice. To perform his yajna peacefully without being attacked by the demons, he created the hills around the Pushkar
  1. Ratnagiri in the south,
  2. Nilgiri in the north,
  3. Sanchoora in the west and
  4. Suryagiri in the east and positioned demigods there to protect the yajna performance.
Such Yajna sacrifices are to be performed along with one’s wife, so when the arrangements for the sacrifice were complete, Lord Brahma sent Narada rsi, the sage among the devas, to bring Sarasvati, Lord Brahma’s consort. But Sarasvati was not ready to leave, so Narada returned to Puskar alone.

According to astrological calculations, the sacrifice had to begin at once, so Brahma asked Indra, the king of the heavenly planets, to provide him a suitable wife to assist in the sacrifice. Lord Indra chose a cowherd girl, but the sacrifice required that the girl be of the brahmana caste. So the devas purified the girl, or elevated her caste, by passing her through a cow (into the cow’s mouth and out the other end), because in Vedic culture cows are considered pure and of the same caste as the brahmanas. The girl then became known as Gayatri, “one who was pulled through a cow.” She married Brahma and performed the yajna.

When Saraswati arrived and saw that Brahma had married without her permission, so she cursed

  1. Brahma saying that he would be worshiped in Pushkar only.
  2. Indra to be easily defeated in battles,
  3. Lord Vishnu to suffer the separation from his wife as a human,
  4. the fire-god Agni who was offered the yajna to be all-devouring and
  5. the priests performing the yajna to be poor.
Endowed by the powers of yajna, Gayatri however diluted Saraswati 's curse, blessing
  1. Pushkar to be the king of pilgrimages,
  2. Indra would always retain his heaven,
  3. Vishnu would be born as the human Rama and finally unite with his consort by fire and
  4. the priests would become scholars and be venerated.
Enraged Sarswati (Savitri) went and established a temple on top of Ratnagiri, the hill a little south of Pushkar. Today pilgrims to Puskar can visit temples of both Sarasvati Devi and Gayatri Devi.  Sarasvati Devi is also present in this world in the form of a river. Five branches of that river
  1. Sarasvati,
  2. Supapra,
  3. Candra,
  4. Kanaka, and
  5. Nanda flow in the Puskar area, but at present they are invisible to ordinary eyes.

It is also said that Lord Varaha appeared  at Varaha ghat here, and Lord Rama came and bathed here.  The sage Parasara is said to have been born here. His descendants, called Parasara Brahamans, are still found in Pushkar and the surrounding area.

Those

Those who go to Brahmâ Loka pass through three different paths.

  1. Those, who come with great merits acquired in life, get posts of duty according to their merits in the next Kalpa (i.e. they become Prajâpatis, Lokapâlas. Indras and so on.)

  2. Those who go to Brahmâ Loka merely by force of their Upâsanâ of Hiranya-Garbha become liberated, when Brahmâ becomes liberated at the end of his life ('extending over two Parârddhas.)

  3. Those that worship Bhagavat pierce the Brahmânda at will, and rise to the abode of Vishnu. The Ślokas XXVIII to XXXI refer to the piercing of Brahmânda by the Bhâgavatas. Śridhara.

  2. Moha or egoism (Asmitâ.)

  3. Mahâ Moha or desire for enjoyment (Râga).

  4. Tâmisra or mental disturbance on the non-fulfilment of desires (Dvesha).

  5. Andha Tâmisra or false perception of death (Abhiniveśa).

Swan

Menstruation

Brahma created his own Manasputra, Sanak, Sananda, Sanatkumar and Sanatan, and advised them to spread the people.

But they were reluctant to indulge in worldly affairs, so they sought advice from Father Brahma to get rid of this worldly world. Father Brahma was then overwhelmed by the powerful menstrual cycle as he was busy with the work of creation, so he was unable to advise the Sankadi sages on theology. Then he meditated on Vishnu and called him for this deed. Sri Bhagwan then descended in the form of a swan and sent the Sankadi sages on the path of liberation by advising them on theology.

Banasura

News of the fighting spread all over the universe. Demigods such as Lord Brahma, from higher planetary systems, along with great sages and saintly persons, Siddhas, Caranas and Gandharvas--all being very curious to see the fight between Lord Siva, Lord Krsna and their assistants--hovered over the battlefield in their airplanes.
