Brahma Kapal / Map / Importance

Brahma Kapal: The Brahma Kapal, on the bank of the Alaknanda, is a flat platform a few yards north of the temple. Legend has the that when Shiva chopped of the fifth head of Brahma, it got stuck to his trident.Lastly with the blessing of Lord Vishnu at Badrivan, the head of Brahma fell down from the trident at this place and hence the name Brahma-Kapal.

It is of great importance as people pay homage to the dead souls of their ancestors. It is a flat platform on the bank of river Alaknanda which is around two kilometers far from the hills of Badrinath. It is said that Lord Brahma himself exists at this place and thus if someone does “Rituals” and “Shraddha Karm” for the departed souls of his family they get salvation from the cycle of birth and death one after another.
